A Maximalist Floral Design Workshop Inspired by Marco Brambilla’s Heaven’s Gate
Teaching Artist Bianca Sparta, Colibri
Saturday, April 25, 2026
10 AM-12:30 PM
2-4:30 PM
Cost: $150.00, plus $100 for materials
Discover the art of storytelling through flowers in this hands-on workshop inspired by the rich visuals and layered opulence of Marco Brambilla’s video collage Heaven’s Gate. We’ll celebrate the arrival of spring and explore how flowers can convey drama, excess, and narrative, transforming seasonal blooms into bold, immersive arrangements.
The workshop begins with a guided gallery walk to see the artwork Heaven’s Gate to spark inspiration, followed by an immersive floral session where you’ll receive all the tools, tips, and a curated selection of vibrant blooms to create your own elegant, maximalist floral still life. No experience is required—just bring your love of flowers, art, and imagination.
Led by Portland-based floral artist Bianca Sparta of Colibri, celebrated for her eclectic and extravagant designs, this workshop welcomes every approach—from soft and subtle to daringly dramatic. Together, we’ll respond to the textures, colors, and stories in Brambilla’s artwork to craft arrangements that are as layered, grandiose, and captivating as his cinematic world.
All supplies are provided, the session will begin at Portland Art Museum. Participants will leave with a container, their floral arrangement, and the skills to create more! GET TICKETS HERE

1995. Directed by Daisy von Scherler Mayer. Runtime: 1hr 34min. Rated R.
Although Mary has little income, she still finds ways to spend her nights at clubs. After being arrested for throwing an illegal rave, she asks her aunt Judy for bail money. Judy then finds Mary a job at her library so that Mary can repay her. Initially, Mary finds the job as a clerk boring and stifling, and prefers to get to know a street food vendor whom she likes. However, Mary must refocus her life once she loses her job and apartment.
Portland Art Museum x Colibri
Celebrate the stillness and beauty of winter in this hands-on, creative workshop inspired by the exhibition Forming Nature, Nature Formed. We’ll begin with a guided visit to the Portland Art Museum, taking time to look closely at sculptures that draw from the shapes, textures, and surfaces of the natural world. From weathered patinas to organic forms, these works invite slow looking and quiet reflection.
Back in the studio, participants will translate these observations into sculptural dried floral arrangements. Using a curated selection of dried flowers, grasses, seed pods, and small natural objects, you’ll experiment with color, texture, balance, and form to create an arrangement that feels both expressive and contemplative. Led by Portland-based creative Bianca Sparta of Colibri, a floral studio known for its wild, eclectic designs, this workshop invites you to emphasize process over perfection. Participants will leave with a sculptural arrangement—and a deeper appreciation for winter’s restrained palette and organic forms.
All supplies provided, session will begin at Portland Art Museum. Participants will leave with a container, their floral arrangement, and the skills to create more!
